“A book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a company, by the way, a counselor, a multitude of counselors.” Books have the power to transport us to new worlds at different times, but they can also take us back to the important moments in our own lives. World Book Day, also known as International Day of the book, is an annual event organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote reading, publishing and copyright. Students of Grade-2 and 3 celebrated this day by making an attractive, multicoloured book and they also discussed their favourite storybook with their peers and teacher. The basic motive behind the activity was to promote reading for pleasure, offering every student and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success irrespective of their background.
