PMUN 2016 EMPOWERS STUDENTS TOWARDS GLOBAL LEADERSHIP, INDIRAPURAM
Climate change poses a fundamental threat to the places, species and people all over the world. We need to work together to resolve the issues and protect the earth and its environment. To adequately address this crisis we must understand the gravity of the matter and look towards well thought workable solutions.
This year’s theme for Presidium Model United Nations-2016 is ‘Presidium for Environment’ being addressed through 11 committees. PMUN seeks to make them the front runners who will engage in debates and discussions while confronting the critical global challenges and drafting resolutions in response to them. The students from Presidium, Indirapuram, availed the opportunity to be a part of the remarkable gathering of more than 500 students at the event. They brainstormed through sessions and agendas to secure the corrective actions required to deal with the current global environmental crisis that has struck the planet.
Such academic stimulations broaden the horizons of students towards the issues that affect our global community. They are an apt tool to develop skills of critical analysis and operative dialogue in them and have them plunge into the issues which plague humanity in today’s world. Such platforms invite the students to understand their responsibility towards the global community and see themselves in a meaningful position to impact and inspire a change.
NAVRASA-A MONUMENTAL JOURNEY INTO THE REALM OF HUMAN EMOTIONS
In an ostentatious and grandiose display of the ‘Nine Emotions’, Presidians undertook a journey into the realm of emotions titled ‘Navrasa’. The theatrical performances were woven into a tapestry of dance and music by them at Kamani auditorium on 3rd August. It was an effort to sculpt the art of students and present it in the form of a musical theatre.
The audience was immersed in the river of emotions and felt them like never before. They were swayed and moved by the dramatic finesse on display along with the perfect notes of music in symphony with flawless dance moves. Parents and teachers were equally enthralled by the enchanting depiction of the 9 emotions, their unending praise and applause was a proof to the huge success of the act.
The concept of 9 rasa’s guides students into understanding the human emotions better and also inculcates respect for the rich cultural heritage of India. The presentation indeed opened new vistas for students and unravelled the creative acumen in them.
MODEL UNITED NATIONS-DECODING THE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS
Global issues such as the environmental crisis are a menace for the human race. Discussions and debates on such issues play a key role in raising student awareness and fostering skills to contribute on a global level and come up with possible solutions. To bring students to the preface of the United Nations and familiarise them with its working and contributions, an interactive academic simulation was organised, famously known as the Presidium Model United Nations (PMUN).
At the session, the students divulged into the topics pertaining to the existential crisis that the environmental problems have created. Such encouraging rhetoric sessions challenge students to broaden their outlook, undertake responsibility, and holistically develop a sense of global citizenship in them thus leading them to join hands in the cause of saving mankind.

Experiential learning always lead to a better understanding of concepts. With this thought practical demonstrations were conducted to help the students at Presidium, learn about the presence of nutrients in food. Middle school students conducted various experiments to test the presence of starch, proteins and fats in some given food items. They learnt about how different food tests are done to identify these nutrients. For e.g.-to test the presence of protein in food, copper sulphate and caustic soda should be added to the food solution and if it turns violet, presence of protein is confirmed. The experiments made the entire concept logical, simpler and interesting for the students to understand, learn and remember.
